Calcium Carbonate Surabaya
Nowadays even since the beginning of the century 19, namely era Industrialization calcium carbonate is widely used in industry. In Indonesia, calcium carbonate has been widely used in various industries, starting from the Cement Industry, Glass Industry & Glass, Paper Industry, Paint Industry, Purification Industry & Steel Processing.
On the market, calcium carbonate sold in two types, namely type heavy (weight) and type light (light). Calcium Carbonate heavy produced by crushing the mined limestone into a fine powder, then filtered until the desired powder size is obtained. Furthermore, the filtered calcium carbonate flour is stored in silos or large storage places before packaging.
Meanwhile, calcium carbonate light obtained after going through a rather complicated production process, compared with heavy type. First the limestone is burned in a giant-sized furnace, to change CaCO3 to be CaO (calcium oxide) and carbon dioxide or CO2 gas.
CaCO3 –> High + CO2
The next process, The CaO formed is then mixed with water and stirred. Then a calcium hydroxide or Ca compound is formed(OH)2. The calcium hydroxide that has been formed is then filtered to separate impurity compounds.
High + H2O -> That(OH)2
That(OH)2 which has been filtered and then reacted with CO2 to form CaCO3 and water, as shown by the following equation:
That(OH)2 + CO2 –> CaCO3 + H2O
The CaCO3 precipitate from the reaction above is then filtered and dried. Furthermore, the calcium hydroxide is crushed into CaCO3 powder.
In terms of quality, Limestone or Calcium Carbonate has several quality parameters, namely Rate / CaCO3 content, Purity / Homogeneity and Hue (Whiteness Rate). In Indonesia, Limestone natural resources / Limestone or the chemical term Calcium Carbonate is very much and spreads in almost all parts of Indonesia, starting from Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi to Papua.
